Benefits of Sports Massage

  • Accelerates muscle recovery after training
  • Improves flexibility and range of motion
  • Prevents injuries and overuse
  • Enhances athletic performance

What to Expect from a Session

As a former Olympic gymnast, I understand the needs of a strained body from personal experience. The sports massage begins with an analysis of your current training load and problem areas. Then I work specifically with deep tissue techniques, trigger point therapy, and fascial work on the affected muscle groups.

Sports massage is more intense than a classical massage. At tense spots, the pressure may be felt as brief, releasing pain, I communicate constantly with you and adjust the intensity. After the treatment, your muscles feel released and more mobile. Mild soreness the next day is normal and shows that the deep layers were reached.

I use special sports massage oils that can have warming or cooling effects, depending on your needs. For acute injuries, I work without oil using targeted mobilisation techniques. My massage table is suitable for all body sizes and weight classes.

The effect is immediately noticeable: more mobility and less tension. For optimal athletic performance, I recommend regular sessions as a fixed part of your training plan, before competitions for preparation, afterwards for recovery.

Who is Sports Massage for?

For athletes of all levels, from hobby sportspeople to professionals. Also ideal for those with physically demanding jobs. Particularly effective for muscle soreness, limited mobility, and injury prevention.

How often should you get Sports Massage?

Before competitions: 2-3 days before. After intensive training: within 24-48 hours. Regular athletes benefit from weekly sessions. During rest periods, every 2-3 weeks is sufficient.

Before and after tips

Don't schedule your massage right after training, wait at least 2 hours. Tell me about any current injuries or pain. After the massage: light stretching and plenty of water. Avoid intensive training for 24 hours.

When to avoid Sports Massage

Sports massage is intense and not suitable in every condition. Caution is advised in these cases:

  • Acute muscle injuries (strains, tears) within the first 48-72 hours
  • Acute inflammation, swelling, or bruising
  • Fever or acute infectious diseases
  • Recent surgeries in the treatment area
  • Thrombosis or deep vein thrombosis
  • Severe exhaustion or overtraining, relaxation massage is better suited here

If unsure after an injury, please consult your sports physician or physiotherapist first.

Frequently Asked Questions about Sports Massage

Is sports massage painful? +
Sports massage is more intense than classical massage. At tense spots, a brief releasing pressure pain may occur, the so-called 'good pain'. But strong pain should never occur. I always work within your comfort zone.
When should I book massage before a competition? +
Ideally 2-3 days before. A massage directly on competition day can over-relax the muscles. The day before, a short 30-minute stimulating massage is possible.
How soon after training can I get a massage? +
Wait at least 2 hours after intense training. The body needs time to start the acute inflammation process. The optimal time for recovery massage is 6-24 hours after training.
Which sports benefit most? +
All sports benefit from sports massage. I most frequently treat runners, cyclists, CrossFit athletes, swimmers, and strength athletes. It's also ideal for desk workers with active leisure time.
Can sports massage prevent injuries? +
Yes. Regular sports massage improves muscle elasticity, releases hardened areas early, and identifies overload zones before they lead to injuries. Many professional athletes use it as a fixed part of their injury prevention programme.
Why is a former Olympic gymnast the right sports massage therapist? +
Through my career as an Olympic gymnast, I understand the demands of high-performance sport first-hand. I know which muscle groups are particularly stressed by which activities and how to optimally recover them.
