Benefits of Cupping Massage

  • Activates intensive circulation and regeneration
  • Relieves chronic back and neck pain
  • Effectively fights cellulite and water retention
  • Releases deep muscle tension and trigger points

What to Expect from a Session

During cupping, I place special vacuum cupping glasses on the skin, which lift the tissue through negative pressure. This intensely stimulates circulation in the deeper tissue layers and releases even stubborn tension that is difficult to reach with conventional massage. The glasses are either placed statically on trigger points or guided dynamically over larger muscle areas.

The sensation during cupping is unusual but not painful, most clients describe it as an intense pulling that quickly subsides. After treatment, characteristic red to purple circles typically appear on the skin. These discolourations are completely normal, harmless, and disappear within 3-7 days. They are not a sign of injury but indicate activated circulation.

For the cupping massage, I use high-quality medical cupping glasses in various sizes along with massage oil for gliding. The treatment can be booked as a standalone 15-minute session or as a supplement to any other massage.

The effect is often immediately noticeable: tension releases, and the affected area feels warm and well-circulated. For chronic issues, I recommend 3-4 sessions at 1-2 week intervals. Plan your appointments so that the marks don't coincide with important occasions.

Who is Cupping Massage for?

For people with chronic back and neck pain, muscle tension, and circulation problems. Also effective for cellulite and general detoxification. Not suitable for those on blood thinners or with sensitive skin.

How often should you get Cupping Massage?

As a complement to massage: possible at every session. As a standalone treatment: every 1-2 weeks. The marks (red circles) disappear after 3-7 days, plan accordingly.

Before and after tips

Drink plenty of water before and after treatment. Be aware that cupping can leave temporary discolorations, wear covering clothing if needed. Avoid hot showers for 24 hours after treatment.

When to avoid Cupping

Cupping is an effective therapy but not suitable for everyone. Avoid in these cases:

  • Blood-thinning medication (Aspirin, Warfarin, etc.)
  • Haemophilia or other blood clotting disorders
  • Sunburn, skin conditions, or open wounds in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy (especially on abdomen and lower back)
  • Varicose veins in the treatment area
  • Very thin or sensitive skin (e.g., from cortisone use)

The discolourations from cupping are normal and not a sign of injury. Plan important appointments accordingly, as marks remain visible for 3-7 days.

I had a stubborn trigger point in my shoulder blade that no regular massage could resolve. One cupping session with Oleg and it was gone. Incredibly effective.

Cupping combined with classical massage is the perfect combo for me. The red circles fade after a few days, but the relief lasts for weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cupping

Are the red circles after cupping dangerous? +
No, the discolourations are harmless. They result from increased blood flow under the skin and disappear completely in 3-7 days. The colour intensity shows how severe the circulation disturbance in the tissue was.
Does cupping hurt? +
Most clients describe it as an unusual but not painful pulling sensation. The negative pressure is noticeable initially but becomes pleasant after a few seconds. I reduce pressure on sensitive areas.
Can I combine cupping with massage? +
Yes, that's actually the most popular option! 15 minutes of cupping as a supplement to a classical or sports massage. Cupping pre-releases deep tension, and the subsequent massage works it out.
How often can I have cupping? +
Once the marks from the last session have faded, typically every 1-2 weeks. For acute issues, frequency can be higher initially, in consultation with me.
Can I shower after cupping? +
Wait at least 2-3 hours and avoid hot water for 24 hours. Lukewarm showering is fine. Also avoid sauna and swimming pools for 24-48 hours after treatment.
